Jim Carrey.

Can you imagine a world without comedians? I can’t. That’s why Jim Carrey is a great Canadian. Jim Carrey was born January 17th, 1962, in New Market, Ontario. He is the youngest of four children in his family. Their names are John, Patricia, and Rita. His fathers name was Percy and his mothers name was Kathleen. In junior high, Jim Carrey was crowned class clown. He attended Blessed Trinty Catholic School in New York for two years before attending Agincourt Collegiate Institute. In grade 9, Jim’s mother fell ill, so Jim had to leave school to care for his mother. He would perform for her, making her laugh. That is when his career really started to take off. .
You’re probably thinking, “Why would Jim Carrey be a great Canadian?” Well, I have an answer for you. When he was ten, he wrote a play called “The Carol Burnett Show”. There was no response. But, did he quit? NO! When he was fourteen years old, he attempted his first standup at a Canadian Comedy Club called ‘Yuk Yuk’s,’ where he was booed off the stage. But, did he quit? NO! His determination was never (and will never, ever,) be the question.
At age seventeen, he bravely returned back to the comedy club Yuk Yuk’s. He was absolutely determined to conquer the audience. They immediately fell under his spell. He became a local in Toronto’s comedy circuit. In a huge leap of faith, Jim Carrey moved to L.A later in the year. When he arrived in L.A, he wrote himself a ten million dollar cheque, determined to cash it one day.

For a while, Jim preformed at a comedy store on a street called Sunset Blvd. All of his hard work paid off when comedian Rodney Dangerfeild saw Jim Carrey saw his act one night. He was so happy with Jim that he signed him as his opener for a whole season Not long after Rodney Dangerfeild noticed Jim, Hollywood noticed him, and in 1982 he appeared in his first television show.  The follong year he appeared on the talk show ‘The Tonight Show’. Despite all of Jim’s success, he started to worry, thinking that he might find himself stuck in ‘the lounge lifestyle’.  So Jim decided to turn all his attention to film and television show.

Now that you have learned a little more about Jim, I can tell you why I think he is the greatest Canadian. I admire him because he kept his goal in mind. He kept reaching out to his goal, and eventually, he got there.  He is in my favorite movie ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and plays my favorite character Lloyd Christmas. He makes me laugh all the time. He has to be the funniest Canadian ever, not to mention the best Canadian.

Jim is still acting in comedy movies. Jim’s humor has brought many smiles to  many people’s lives, including mine. From the day he was born you could tell he was an extrovert. Jim was born into the life of acting. He kept on trying, trying to accomplish something and in the end, he accomplished more then he imagined. It just shows how if if you keep your goal in mind, you will reach it.
